Feng Shui Tip: When the Annual 5 Yellow Meets the Ruling Water Star 9

During the solar year of the Bing Wu/Fire Horse, the annual 5 Yellow Qi affects the entire South sector of your home and property. The South sector connects with the Li Trigram which relates to Fire Qi, while the annual 5 Yellow is an Earth Qi. Fire produces Earth, which means the annual 5 Yellow packs additional punch this year.
Traditionally, the annual 5 Yellow is known as a misfortune Qi and while a sector of your home and property is affecting by this annual energy, we recommend avoiding construction, excavation and removal of trees, reducing Fire element (eg colour from the red spectrum, bright lights, open flames and triangular and pyramid shapes) and increasing Metal element (eg shiny white, gold, golden yellow, silver, brass, bronze, pewter, metallic objects that are curved or round in shape, the sound of relaxing piano music playing on a low volume, a chiming clock with a swinging round metallic pendulum or the sound of a metallic windchime).
In some cases where the annual 5 Yellow connects with an inherently negative energy flow within the affected compass sector, a Salt Water Remedy (which actually originated as a method to help reduce the fierce fighting Metal Qi of the 7 Po Jun), may be recommended. Personally, I rarely recommend this remedy because it looks unsightly and can cause a mess – especially if there are children or pets in the household.
If you dig a little deeper into the energy known as the 5 Yellow (Lian Zhen), it connects with the Indirect Spirit location during the current Time Period of energy flow and when it affects a compass sector where the inherent ruling water star Qi is located during that specific Time Period, it can be used to hasten abundance opportunity via the strategic placement of water.
If the location happens to be the current Indirect Spirit location for the current Time Period AND it contains the inherent ruling water star Qi, then the presence of the annual 5 Yellow has the potential to attract very strong opportunity to the household if you add a body of still or very gently moving water to that sector. The annual 5 Yellow will then focus on the body of water rather than attracting misfortune for the occupants, as long as you still abide by the rules of avoiding construction, excavation or tree removal while the annual 5 Yellow resides in that compass sector and keep the still or gently moving water clean and topped up.
So now you may be wondering, does the South sector of my home contain the inherent ruling water star energy, and can I add a body of still or very gently moving water to the South sector this year to make productive use of the annual 5 Yellow Qi during the Bing Wu/Fire Horse year? The answer is, well of course it depends, and before you try adding any water to the South sector this year you should ensure you are absolutely positive in regard to the inherent Fei Xing/Flying Star energy flow (according to the Time Period of construction and Magnetic facing orientation of the building), and whether or not you have an inherent ruling water star 9 energy residing in that location.
Note: each of the 9 cyclic solar Time Periods of construction are made up of 20 years each and begin around 3-5 February (eg Period of 4: 1924-1944), Period of 5 (1944-1964), Period of 6 (1964-1984) and so on. There are 3 Cycles within the Time Periods, known as the Upper Cycle: (Periods 1, 2 and 3), the Middle Cycle: (Periods 4, 5 and 6) and the Lower Cycle: (Periods 7, 8 and 9). We entered the current Period of 9 Cycle on 4 Feb 2024.
Ascertaining the correct Time Period of construction for your home can be tricky if it has been renovated or extended since its original construction. This article can help with determining the true Time Period of energy flow.
For buildings constructed during the current Lower Time Cycle, the ruling water star 9 Qi is likely to be situated in the South sector if your home was constructed during Period of 7 and faces towards 203-217 degrees Southwest or 68-82 degrees East, or constructed during the Period of 8 and faces towards 218-247 degrees Southwest or 338-352 degrees North or constructed during the current Period of 9 and facing towards 158-172 degrees South or 338-352 degrees North.
And remember when ascertaining the compass sectors affecting your home and property (while measuring with a compass or compass app that has been calibrated to Magnetic North and NOT Map North), each compass sector originates in the gravitational centre of your home like 8 big pieces of pie, that extend out towards the boundary lines of your property, no matter where your home is located on the property.
