Period of 9 from a Feng Shui and Pragmatic Perspective

In regard to Feng Shui 20 year time cycles, we now in a 20-year Period of 9 energy flow.  The transitional phase from the previous Period of 8 began gradually taking effect from 2017 (according to the Xuan Kong Da Gua calendar) with the transition to Period of 9 completed as we entered the year of the Jia Chen/Wood Dragon from 4 Feb 2024.

The underlying themes and trends of Period of 9 are quite different from what we have experienced over the past 2 decades.  Many seeds were planted during Period of 8 in regard to research and the collection of data and knowledge.  Period of 9 will make astounding use of this accumulated information, with massive technological advancements affecting our finance, education, energy, transport, health, agricultural, entertainment, hospitality and beauty/visual aesthetics industries.  

Whereas Period of 8 connected with the Sage, conservative patriarchy, gut, cellular and bone health, accumulated assets, resources and knowledge, Period of 9 connects with a more collaborative, de-centralised, aesthetic, innovative and intelligent feminine trend, with emphasis on the visual, A.I, aesthetics and the health of the heart and mind.  Quality and scarcity will tend to be valued over quantity.

We also have the influence of Pluto transiting Aquarius from late January 2024 until January 2044.  This astrological influence connects with a long-term transitional phase beginning with the need to let go of that which no longer works for you, taking responsibility for your words and actions and thus committing to your ‘authentic self’, followed by new sources of connection, collaboration and communication.  Aquarius likes to plan for and strategize for the future, with the interests of the 'collective' in mind.

From a Feng Shui perspective, cities and towns with benevolent mountains in the South and vibrant water in the North will tend to prosper over the long term.  It will also be beneficial from a general landform perspective to have water in the East, Southwest and/or Southeast (if supported with a productive water star), and higher ground and healthy mountain formations in the West, Northwest and/or Northeast (if supported with a benevolent mountain star).

During the Period of 9, the water star 9 becomes the ruling (Wang) Qi (transformative energy) and will attract the greatest abundance opportunity to your home depending on where it enters your home and property.  Ideally, you want to live in a home that has regularly used external doors and a water feature such as a pond, pool, dam, lake etc in the location of the water star 9 in order to gain the most abundance opportunity from this ruling Qi.   

The water star 9 ruling Qi energy will be potentially locked in the centre and difficult to access in the following homes if they still retain their original Period of construction natal chart of energy flow:

A home constructed during the Period of 1: (4 Feb 1864 – 3 Feb 1884) and facing towards Southeast (112.5 – 157.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 2: (4 Feb 1884 – 4 Feb 1904) and facing towards East (67.5 – 112.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 3: (5 Feb 1904 – 4 Feb 1924) and facing towards Southwest (202.5 – 247.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 4: (5 Feb 1924 – 4 Feb 1944) and facing towards North (337.5 – 22.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 5: (5 Feb 1944 – 4 Feb 1964) and facing towards South (157.5 – 202.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 6: (5 Feb 1964 – 3 Feb 1984) and facing towards Northeast (22.5 – 67.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 7: 4 Feb 1984 – 3 Feb 2004) and facing towards West (247.5 – 292.5 degrees)

A home constructed during the Period of 8: 4 Feb 2004 – 3 Feb 2024) and facing towards Northwest (292.5 – 337.5 degrees)

Note: if your home is contained in the list above, and has been substantially renovated and/or extended during a different time period to when it was first constructed, then it’s possible you may have already released the locked water star 9 and changed the energy flow permanently into a different natal chart of energy flow, depending on when the changes occurred, how significant the change was and whether or not there was anyone living in your home when the changes occurred.

During the Period of 9, while the water star 8 will pass its ruling crown to the water star 9, it will still retain a sense of benevolence and support for the gradual accumulation of assets – esp property-related assets, although more effort will be needed as this energy will have a tendency to procrastinate as time moves on.

The water star 1 will become a future wealth qi and tie in nicely with luck potential via education, creative expression, the arts, philosophy and intelligence.

The water star 2 will still attract illness qi under certain conditions, however it will also have the potential to open doors to medical advancement and property-related abundance opportunity.  The concept of medical facilities focused on treating continued wellness rather than simply treating the sick will expand exponentially into industries targeting the health of your mind and emotions as well as the physical body.  

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to have a profound effect on all parts of our work, education, health and lifestyles.  The advent of Generative AI via Natural Language Processing (NLP) is transforming social media and the digital world. How it all pans out is still up for debate as there are positive and negative scenarios to consider, as demonstrated in movies such as The Creator and Terminator.

In any case, it is interesting to also ponder the fact that we are now embarking on the tail end of a 180 year cycle running from the Period of 1 in 1864 to the Period of 9 which ends in 2044.  Hopefully the accumulated lessons learnt along the way will help us connect with a period of enlightenment, sustainability and greater connection with the earth and with each other.

OK so now we come to the pragmatic part of this discussion – well what can I do right now in preparation for Period of 9?

First, check to see if your home or business is connected with any of the specific time period/facing orientations listed above where the water star star 9 is potentially locked in the centre of the building.  If so, get a qualified Xuan Kong Fei Xing Feng Shui consultant to check it out and provide solutions to unlock the qi and/or make productive use of alternative energies that may be available on the property depending on how you use the space and the influence of surrounding landform.

Second, start planning how to connect with the Period of 9 energy via your work and business.   You can do this by embracing the following:

• New technology and digitization
• Business partnerships and collaborations
• Hyper personalisation for customer satisfaction and retention
• Productization of B2B services
• Adopting innovative and creative design
• Consider evolving to a position where you train others in how to use new technologies in your industry
• Focus on creative performance and social media by appealing to clients via visual beauty, aesthetics, scarcity, uniqueness and quality products and finishes 

Finally, the mental and physical health and wellness industry will also play an important role during the Period of 9, especially in regard to the eyes, mental perception, heart, small intestine, anger management and sense of inner hope and happiness.  Make sure you address the quality of life/work balance for yourself and your employees and consider ways in which to enrich your work environment with new technologies that allow you to better manage your time and resources.
